Hey, friends! This week, we’re wrapping up National BBQ Month with a shout-out to some of Martin’s BBQ restaurant customers and foodie friends. We normally don’t like to brag, but we have to say…these barbecue pros and pitmasters sure know how to smoke up some good ol’ fashioned barbecue. And it’s made all the better when served on Martin’s Potato Rolls—the perfect squishy bun for soaking up all that meaty goodness!
So without further ado—we’ll leave it to these pros to showcase some delicious BBQ Month inspiration for your enjoyment.
Bub City – Chicago, IL
Bub City in Chicago is a bustling attraction for all things BBQ and country music. With its Americana décor, live music performances, and multitude of smoked BBQ meats and other dine-in offerings, it’s certainly a must-visit site.
Chaps Pit Beef – Baltimore, MD
Chaps Pit Beef has been a Baltimore staple since 1987, and has since expanded to other locations in Maryland, Delaware, and Pennsylvania. They are famously known for their Baltimore Pit Beef (hence the name) and other regional offerings, typically served alongside a spicy horseradish-based “Tiger Sauce.” Chaps is an award-winning, nationally acclaimed BBQ spot and has even been featured on shows such as Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives with Guy Fieri!
Dinosaur BBQ – Syracuse, NY
Dinosaur Bar-B-Que first opened in Syracuse, NY in the 1980s and now has several more locations in Rochester, Harlem, Troy, Brooklyn, and Buffalo, NY. Their food has been featured in various publications and they also have their own line of BBQ spices and sauces (hint: we sampled some on last week’s blog!) as well as a cookbook. Explore one of their locations to sample favorites like their Dino Sliders, with options ranging from BBQ pulled pork to sliced brisket, pork belly, and more!

Hugh Baby’s – Nashville, TN
Founded by pro pitmaster Pat Martin, Hugh Baby’s specializes in Memphis-style BBQ, old-fashioned burgers, and hand-spun milkshakes, combined with their own signature items, making for an uncomplicated selection of tasty menu options. Stop by one of their three Nashville locations for some amazing barbecue, like their smoked pulled pork sandwich topped with coleslaw and their own homemade BBQ Sauce!
Jim ‘N Nicks Bar-B-Q – Multiple Locations
With nearly 40 locations across 7 states, it’s no wonder Jim N’ Nicks has been a tried-and-true favorite in the South for over 35 years. Head on over for one of their classics like the aptly named “Pig on a Bun,” a pile of pulled pork served on a Martin’s Potato Bun with optional sauces and toppings.
La Barbecue – Austin, TX
La Barbecue began in Austin, TX in 2012 and has been serving up Texas-style brisket, smoked “low and slow,” ever since. Pop by for an assorted BBQ tray with all the fixin’s (including a loaf of bread on the side!) or one of their various smoked meat sandwiches served on Martin’s Potato Rolls.
LeRoy & Lewis – Austin, TX
Also hailing from Austin, TX, LeRoy and Lewis Barbecue (named after its dual family-owners), prides themselves in serving up what they call “New School BBQ.” Their menu offerings include such deliciousness as BBQ platters filled with barbacoa, beef cheeks, brisket, pulled pork, or sausage, a smoked brisket burger, and a New School BBQ Sandwich topped with house made kimchi and their own Beet BBQ Sauce (which our team also sampled last week.)

Pig Beach BBQ – NYC / West Palm Beach, FL
Owned by our good friend Matt Abdoo and his partners Rob Shawger and Shane McBride, Pig Beach brought authentic barbecue to New York City and have added their own unique, contemporary flair. At their two New York locations in Brooklyn and Queens, and their newest location in West Palm Beach, FL, you’ll find menu offerings like Chef Jeff’s Brisket Sandwich with Pickles, Crispy Onions & the Pig Beach World Champion Classic BBQ Sauce (shown above).
P.S. Pig Beach recently hosted the Jeff Michner Foundation BBQ Benefit at their location in Queens, NY. The event is held annually in honor of the Executive Chef of Pig Beach BBQ Brooklyn who passed away suddenly in 2018, and raises money for the Foundation to create scholarships for culinary students and provide support for families managing loss and grief.
Martin’s was a sponsor of this year’s event, which saw tremendous turnout of approximately 2,000 attendees, raising $100,000 for the foundation. The Benefit also hosted a number of famous chefs and BBQ pitmasters including Chris Lilly (Big Bob Gibson), Kelly Dallas (Hogapalooza), Amy Mills (17th Street BBQ), Ed Randolph (Handsome Devil BBQ), Billy Durney (Hometown BBQ), Sam Jones (Sam Jones BBQ), Pat Martin (Martin’s BBQ), Tuffy Stone (Cool Smoke BBQ), Harrison Sapp (Southern Soul BBQ), Mike Puma (Gotham Burger Social Club), and Skip Steele and Dana Lamel (Que 49 Smokehouse).
Q Barbeque – Richmond, VA
Richmond’s Q Barbeque offers delectable BBQ options including hickory-smoked brisket and pulled pork, dry rub smoked chicken, and BBQ burnt ends—all served either as a sandwich or a BBQ Plate with additional sides. They also offer convenient meal solutions such as curbside pickup and delivery, catering, and “Family Pack” meal kits.
Rocklands Barbeque – Washington, DC
Drop by Rocklands’ Washington, D.C., Arlington, or Alexandria locations for a platter of barbeque ribs, chicken, brisket, pork, or sausage, or one of their specialty sandwiches like the Pork Belly Sandwich with Rocklands Spicy Citrus Sauce or a Chopped Pork Sandwich with scallions and coleslaw (shown above), both served on Martin’s Potato Rolls!
Rodney Scott’s Whole Hog BBQ – Charleston, SC; Birmingham, AL; Atlanta, GA
Pitmaster Rodney Scott has been cooking (and perfecting) whole hog barbecue since he was 11 years old, and his dedication to preserving the technique can be seen in the quality of his current restaurant locations in Charleston, SC, Birmingham, AL, and Atlanta, GA. Stop by for a plate of smoked chicken or turkey, whole hog pork, brisket, or a BBQ sandwich served with classic sides.

Sam Jones BBQ – Greenville / Raleigh, NC
Can’t decide what kind of BBQ to order? Sam Jones BBQ in Greenville and Raleigh, NC has a smorgasbord of options: try a two or three meat combo with a selection of sides, slaw, and sauces, served in the classic style of Eastern North Carolina barbecue.
Smoking Kow BBQ – Washington, D.C.
This food-truck-turned-brick-and-mortar restaurant in D.C. is known for its hickory-smoked, slow-cooked pork, brisket, and chicken, all hand-rubbed using their signature spice blend. Visit one of their restaurant locations (or rent one of their catering trucks) to sample a BBQ sandwich or assorted meat platter like the one shown above!
Terry Black’s Barbecue – Austin/Dallas, TX
This Central Texas-style BBQ from pitmaster Terry Black includes sandwich combos and smoked meat trays like the one pictured shown above with smoked sausage, sliced brisket, creamed corn, mac and cheese, baked potato salad, pinto beans, and pickles. Valentina`s Tex Mex BBQ – Austin, TX
