Soup and Sandwich Combos

by Martin's Famous Pastry Shoppe, Inc.

There’s nothing like a nice bowl of soup to warm you up on a chilly evening! We love soups because of how versatile they are. You start with a base such as chicken, beef, or vegetable stock, or cream; then add in your favorite vegetables, protein, grains, etc. to make it your own creation. Soups are also a natural pairing for sandwiches and because of how customizable they both are, there are endless ways to “mix and match” to create the perfect meal.

We’ve paired together some delicious soup and sandwich combos for you to try. Browse through them (or create your own), then let us know in the comments section which one is your favorite! And if you try out any of these recipes at home, make sure to submit a picture on the recipe page.

Soup + Sandwich Combo Recipes

Vegetable Bean Soup + Chicken Pesto Panini

Our Chicken Pesto Panini with sundried tomatoes, spinach, and mozzarella cheese pairs perfectly with a tomato/vegetable-based soup like this Vegetable Bean Soup from relish.com. The fragrant and flavorful taste of the sundried tomatoes and pesto sauce is amplified when dunked into the warm soup. Try using chipotle chicken or adding bacon on the sandwich for some extra smokiness.

French Onion Soup + Roast Beef Sandwich

This French Onion Soup uses caramelized onions, garlic, and beef stock for a base; so naturally it couples well with a classic Roast Beef Sandwich. The sweetness of the soup is balanced out by the slight kick from the sandwich’s horseradish spread. Note: you could also try this soup with our Roast Beef and Caramelized Onion Sliders recipe.

Baked Potato Soup + Grilled Ham and Cheese Sandwich

A hearty soup like this Loaded Baked Potato Soup from Betty Crocker deserves a simple-yet-delicious sandwich pairing like our Grilled Ham and Cheese. Plus – nothing goes together like meat and potatoes (and a little bit of cheese doesn’t hurt either)!

Five Bean Chili + Bacon & Avocado Grilled Cheese

The refreshing avocado in this Bacon & Avocado Grilled Cheese provides a soothing contrast to the mild heat of the Five Bean Chili, which is spiced with chili powder, smoked paprika, and diced jalapenos, and topped with Potato Bread Croutons. Together, the full meal offers just the right amount of smokiness with no shortage on flavor.

Pumpkin Soup + Apricot Turkey Sandwiches

Looking for a sweeter pairing? Try this sweet-and-savory duo of Pumpkin Soup and Apricot Turkey Sandwiches. The seasonal soup pairs off flavors like nutmeg and pumpkin puree with bacon, while the mini sandwiches combine smoked turkey with apricot preserves on our delicious Cinnamon Raisin Swirl Potato Bread.

Tomato Soup with Grilled Cheese Croutons

Can’t forget the most iconic soup/sandwich pairing of all: Tomato Soup and Grilled Cheese! This recipe puts a fun spin on the classic – by turning a grilled cheese sandwich into mini toasted croutons. (You know you were going to dunk your sandwich anyway, so why not cut out the extra step?)
