National Sandwich Day
Thank goodness for National Sandwich Day (November 3rd) – a day to celebrate the classic pairing of bread + just about anything else (in the case of this article, high-quality ground beef)!
Sandwich, panini, grinder, sub, hoagie, hero…the names and regional varieties of this popular food type are numerous. Whatever you call it, we can all agree that our favorite toppings and condiments stacked between two slices of bread (or in a roll) makes for a delicious and convenient meal!
The sandwich is named after John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich, who supposedly requested beef between two slices of bread so he could continue playing his game of cards without making a mess.* His creation has since become the perfect convenience meal for multitaskers everywhere!
If you’re bored of the typical PB&J or ham and cheese, why not get creative? There are plenty of exciting sandwiches to discover. We love ourselves a good Sloppy Joe or Patty Melt, especially at this time of year. Check out our two special recipes below to help satisfy your sandwich craving. Both recipes use Schweid & Sons high-quality USDA Prime ground beef.

While this sandwich may not prevent you from making a mess (hence the name), it is a classic that deserves recognition. The soft and slightly-sweet Sandwich Potato Roll is the perfect pairing to the Schweid & Sons The One Percenter* ground beef slow-cooked in a sweet and tangy ketchup-based sauce. Just don’t forget the napkins!
*The One Percenter is Certified Angus Beef ® brand USDA Prime chuck

Who says a burger can’t be a sandwich? You get best of both worlds with this recipe, which “sandwiches” a Schweid & Sons The Prime Burger* patty in between two slices of Martin’s Potato Bread, along with sautéed yellow onion and classic American cheese. Now, that’s a sandwich!
*The Prime Burger is 100% USDA Prime chuck
