Let the countdown begin – only three days until Thanksgiving! For many, this festive season is a time to reminisce fondly on years past, cherish time spent with family, and reflect on our personal blessings.
What does Thanksgiving mean to you?
Tradition
At Thanksgiving, we think back to Plymouth and the very first Thanksgiving between the Pilgrims and Native Americans. We gather with family and recall memories of our past celebrations. We cherish old traditions and build new ones for the future.
Every family has its own traditions, whether it’s who carves the turkey or what the best dessert is. Check out the below list of some common Thanksgiving traditions and see which are important to your family.
- Breaking the turkey wishbone for good luck
- Watching a football game on TV
- Running a race (like the “Turkey Trot”)
- Watching the Thanksgiving Day Parade
- Preparing for Christmas (putting up decorations, exchanging “Secret Santa” names, or maybe “Black Friday” shopping)
- Helping others by volunteering at a food shelter or soup kitchen

As its name suggests, Thanksgiving is also a time to be thankful for the many blessings in our lives. We each have many things to be thankful for every day, but on this day in particular it is nice to take note. Think of all the things you are thankful for and compare it to our list below.
- Family

- Health
- Freedom
- Basic needs such as food, water, and shelter
- Education
- A Job
