Throwback Thursday – Virginia Beach; 2000

Lloyd and Lois Martin, co-founders of Martin’s Famous Pastry Shoppe, Inc., loved to travel and they loved to learn. They would’ve been so excited to be a part of Martin’s All-American Road Trip!

They passed down this love of traveling and learning to their son, Jim Martin, Martin’s current President. He, in turn, passed it down to his children as well.

This week Martin’s Road Trip included Virginia Beach, so we thought we’d share a few pictures of the Martin family in Virginia Beach. In 2000, Jim and Donna Martin’s son, Joe Martin, earned his M.B.A. and the whole family attended his graduation to show him how proud they were of him. Since then, Joe Martin has gone on to become Martin’s Vice President of Bakery Operations and our Master Baker. If you like our Cinnamon-Raisin Swirl Potato Bread, Joe is the one to thank, as he developed the recipe!

Meanwhile, back at the bakery…

In 2000, we were continuing to expand our presence into the Florida market, which we had just started into the previous year, in 1999.

Also in 2000, we were beginning the process of adding another product to our line of bakery items. We began testing various formulations for making Whole Wheat Potato Bread. It took us a little while to perfect the recipe, but three years later, in 2003, we proudly introduced Martin’s 100% Whole Wheat Potato Bread to the world!
