Pomegranate Brie Burger

Hello, Winter!

There’s no doubt about it…winter is on our doorstep. In just two short days, the longest night of the year, December 21st (a.k.a. the first day of winter), will be here! While we’ve already been feeling the effects of winter’s impending arrival, we’re looking forward to it becoming a reality.

So, we welcome the chilly atmosphere, the many excuses to bundle up, the seasonal flavors and fragrances, and most of all—the fun holiday festivities!

To commemorate this time of year, here are a few of our favorite things about winter!

  1. The holiday season…especially Christmas!
  2. Fresh blankets of new-fallen snow
  3. Cozy soups and slow-cooker meals
  4. Gathering with family and friends
  5. Fuzzy socks, slippers, and sweaters
  6. Dazzling icicles on frosted windowpanes
  7. Warm casseroles, hot cocoa, and freshly baked cookies
  8. Cuddling up in front of the fireplace
  9. Sledding, ice-skating, and snowball fights
  10. Twinkling lights and festive décor

As you can see from our list above, Christmas is important to us here at Martin’s! Beginning in mid-November, we start decorating our corporate office buildings with holiday decorations, both inside and out, and we also host a company-wide Christmas luncheon each year.

To share our love for this time of year, and for winter as a whole, we developed a Pomegranate Brie Burger that includes elements of red, green, and white, along with season-specific ingredients.

About This Recipe

Pomegranate Brie Burger

The Red: Pomegranate

Pomegranates come into season in mid fall and last through early winter. Their ruby-red color and decorative appearance (with an ornament-like shape and miniature “crown”) make them popular to serve at Christmas time and throughout the holiday season. Pomegranates are also a historical and religious symbol, denoting life and resurrection, fertility, and beauty.

Pomegranate shows up in two forms in this featured burger recipe. First, pomegranate arils are embedded into the ground beef patty to add a bit of crunch and mini bursts of flavor. Second, the pomegranate juice and remaining arils are jelled into a sauce and spooned over top of the cooked burger to provide a sweet and tart component and an eye-catching design.

The Green: Arugula

A layer of peppery arugula on both the top and bottom of this burger gives it another seasonal touch and a contrasting flavor. Together with the red berry-like pomegranate arils, the two elements almost give the resemblance of Christmas holly.

The White: Brie Cheese

Brie is a semi-soft, mild cheese, commonly enjoyed at holiday dinner parties. It is often served baked and topped with fruit and nuts (you can find one variation here), and served alongside bread or crackers. In addition, its bright-white appearance complements the red and green elements and further embraces the Christmas spirit.

In this recipe, you can find brie tucked into the burger patty itself for a melty surprise, and also piled on top for an extra level of creaminess and to complete the colorful and festive presentation.

The Rest:

  • Burger Patty: Ground beef combined with garlic, brie, pomegranate arils, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper, for a perfect balance of flavors: savory, salty, sweet, and tangy.
  • Caramelized Onions: Sautéed in butter until golden brown, and oh-so delicious!
  • Martin’s Sandwich Potato Rolls: The perfect golden touch for this holiday-inspired burger!
