Homegating Hoagies

Welcome to homegating season! As you may have easily guessed, “homegating” is simply tailgating from home. It’s not a new concept by any means, but this year it takes on a whole new meaning. With entire sports seasons having been canceled or postponed over the summer, sports fans are eager to resume cheering on their favorite teams. Additionally, with fall sports leagues adjusting to new schedules and routines due to COVID-19, it makes perfect sense that fans would look for new ways to enjoy the game, from the comfort of their own homes!

Homegating brings together all the best parts of tailgating—the great food, the high-energy atmosphere of game day, and the excitement of celebrating with friends and fellow sports fans—all without the hassle of trekking your gear to a stadium parking lot or having to wait in line.

Some of our favorite tailgating foods, which are also perfectly suited for a homegating party environment, are hoagies! These types of sandwiches not only allow for endless combinations of meats, toppings, and sauces, but many of them can also be prepared in a slow cooker or similar “hands-off” technique, making them a great option during busy game day preparations.

Here are 12 of our favorite game day hoagies perfect for homegating, all on Martin’s Hoagie Rolls!

Pepperoni Pizza Sub (#1)

Pizza and game day go together hand in hand. And with these customizable pizza hoagies (on Martin’s Hoagie Rolls turned garlic bread) you can top them however you like. Layer on the marinara sauce, pepperoni, mozzarella cheese, and any other favorite pizza toppings like mushrooms, peppers and onions, sausages, or black olives, and enjoy!

Buffalo Chicken Cheesesteak (#3)

Buffalo Chicken Cheesesteak

Two foods that just scream “game day” are buffalo chicken wings and philly-style cheesesteaks. What’s even better is when you combine them both into one! To make them for yourself, fry up some thinly sliced chicken breast, combine with prepared buffalo wing sauce, and serve on a Martin’s Hoagie Roll with provolone cheese, sautéed onions, blue cheese dressing, and scallions.
