MFPS Online Statement Regarding Ingredient Changes [Effective August 1, 2014]
At Martin’s, we always strive to provide you, our valued customers, with the highest quality products possible. We do our best to respond to your suggestions, comments, needs, and concerns with as much honesty and transparency as possible. With that in mind, we are pleased to announce the following changes that we have made in response to our customers’ wishes and our own desire to make the best products possible.
In recent weeks you may have noticed a slight change in the appearance and color of our rolls. That is because we have removed the yellow dyes #5 & #6. Instead we are using natural turmeric and annatto to give our products their signature golden color. (You can read more about these new natural ingredients and their potential health benefits at the bottom of this note.)
We are very excited to make this change, as many of you have requested it, and we believe that our products are even better because of it! However, we would like to point out that these natural colorings are more sensitive to sunlight, temperature, and humidity. This means the color can fade and cause the rolls to look slightly different than they have in the past. It does not affect the flavor and taste though, and it is a natural alternative to an artificial dye, so we think it’s a great trade-off. We hope you do too!
Another change we have made recently is that we have started to use sunflower oil instead of soybean oil or coconut oil. In taste tests we discovered that sunflower oil actually improves the flavor of our products, while also moving us toward our goal of offering non-GMO products. It’s a win-win!
And lastly, we have removed the dough conditioner, Azodicarbonamide, from all our products. During the past year it became evident that our customers would prefer that our products didn’t contain this ingredient, and in our desire to continue developing and changing to serve and meet the needs of our customers, we are thrilled to be able to make this change!
At Martin’s we are constantly trying to bake the best products possible—products that use the highest quality ingredients that we are proud to serve to our own families and yours. We trust that you, our loyal customers and friends, will appreciate our efforts and will continue to support us. We listen to and value your feedback.
