How to Make a Spicy Pork & Beef Meatball Sandwich

Prep:

Mince 4 jarred cherry peppers, reserving about ¼ cup of the pickling liquid.

Prep: Mince cherry peppers.

Step 1:

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. Drizzle olive oil into a 9 x 13-inch baking dish and spread it around to evenly coat the entire surface. Set aside.

Step 1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees.

Step 2:

Using a knife, slice open the casing on each sweet Italian sausage (1/2 lb or about 2-3 links) and discard. (Or if you’d like to skip this step you can purchase loose sausage – this is what we did). Place the uncased sausage meat and Schweid & Sons burger patties (1/2 lb of either Prime Burger or The One Percenter) into a large mixing bowl. Mix to combine.

Step 3:

To the meat mixture, add 4 tsp salt, minced cherry peppers, pickling liquid, 1 T garlic, and 3 large eggs.

Step 3a. Add salt, cherry peppers, pickling liquid, garlic, eggs to the meat mixture.

Next, add 12 oz. Martin’s Potatobred Stuffing to the meat and spices mixture.

Step 3b. Add Martin’s Potatobred Stuffing.

Mix everything together by hand until thoroughly incorporated. (This will take some effort – there is just enough liquid to combine).

Step 4:

Roll the mixture into round, golf-ball sized meatballs (about 1 1/2 inches) making sure to pack the meat firmly.

Meatball Sub Step 7
Step 4. Roll mixture into balls.

Place the balls into the prepared baking dish, being careful to line them up snugly and in even rows vertically and horizontally to form a grid. The meatballs should be touching one another.

Step 4b. Align meatballs on a baking sheet.

Arrange meatballs to form a grid.

Step 5:

Roast for 20 minutes, or until brown and cooked through. A meat thermometer inserted into the center should read 165 degrees Fahrenheit when cooked through.

Step 7. Slice mozzarella.

Step 8:

Serve 3 meatballs on each Martin’s Long Potato Roll. Top with fresh mozzarella and your favorite homemade or jarred marinara sauce. Garnish with chopped basil.

Serve on Martin’s Long Potato Rolls with mozzarella, sauce, and basil.

Tip: place finished sandwich under the broiler just until cheese is melty and golden.  We recommend adding a little butter or pam to your Martin’s Potato Rolls to help give them a golden brown sheen.
