At Martin’s Famous Pastry Shoppe, we believe in giving back to the community. We have been very blessed over the years, and as we enter this year’s season of “giving thanks,” we would like to show our gratitude to a few organizations that are a blessing to those around them. Specifically, organizations that help their communities by providing food to those who are less fortunate. We would like to invite you to join us!
During this month of November, we are asking for your help in deciding which charity best demonstrates a spirit of giving. From November 1st through 30th, you will have the joy of voting for the charity for which you are most grateful. The five charities are listed below, along with a brief description of their mission to fight hunger. We encourage you to visit each charity’s website to find out more information about who they are and how you can get involved.
All five charities will receive a monetary donation from Martin’s based on their rank in this poll. The donation breakdown is as follows: first place will receive $10,000; second place will receive $6,000; third, fourth, and fifth place will each receive $2,000.
In this time of thanks-giving as you reflect on the blessings in your own life, please take a moment to show your support. Please read about the five charities listed below and cast your vote for whichever means the most to you. You may vote once per day, so check in often to see how your top choice is doing.
Encourage your family and friends to vote by sharing the contest on social media using the hashtag #MartinsCharityContest. Thank you for being a part of Martin’s community and for all of the blessings you have given us over the years. Happy Thanksgiving!

|Atlanta Community Food Bank
The Atlanta Community Food Bank is one of the largest hunger relief organizations in the Southeast. We support a network of 600 partner nonprofits – community and faith-based organizations – across 29 counties in greater Atlanta and north Georgia. Together, we connect over 750,000 people each year with more than 61 million pounds of food – or more than 50 million meals. But our work isn’t just about food – it’s about community change. We engage, educate and empower the community to fight hunger. The transformational change we catalyze in the community leads to transformational change in the lives of our clients.
|Second Harvest Food Bank
Second Harvest Food Bank is leading the fight against hunger in South Louisiana by providing food access, advocacy, education, and disaster response. Second Harvest provides food to 474 partners and programs across 23 parishes. Together, we make up the largest anti-hunger network in the state.
Through our food distribution programs, community kitchen meal service, nutrition education, and public benefits assistance, we are helping to create pathways out of poverty. Every year, Second Harvest secures millions of pounds of food that otherwise would have gone to waste. Our work helps ensure that these meals make it to the dinner tables of thousands of families struggling with hunger in South Louisiana.
|Greater Chicago Food Bank
We are Chicago’s food bank — a nonprofit food distribution and training center that provides food for hungry people while striving to end hunger in our community.
The Food Depository, founded in 1979, makes a daily impact across Cook County with a network of 650 pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, mobile programs, children’s programs, older adult programs and innovative responses that address the root causes of hunger. Last year, the Food Depository distributed 68 million pounds of shelf-stable food, fresh produce, dairy products and meat, the equivalent of 155,000 meals every day.
Philabundance seeks to drive hunger from our communities today and end hunger forever. It serves approximately 90,000 people per week, 30% of whom are children and 15% of whom are seniors. In 2014, Philabundance distributed approximately 30 million pounds of food through its own neighborhood distribution programs and through a network of more than 400 member agencies in nine counties in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. For more information about Philabundance, visit philabundance.org or call 215-339-0900.
