Ronald McDonald House Phonathon
On March, 25th 2014, Martin’s participated as a “Bronze Benefactor” in the Fifth Annual CBS3 and CW Philly “Change the Luck of a Child” Phone Bank benefiting Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of the Philadelphia Region, Inc. RMHC is a non-profit organization that supports programs that improve the health and well-being of children. They are most commonly known for their Ronald McDonald Houses, which provide a “home-away-from-home” for the families of seriously ill children who are receiving treatment at nearby hospitals. As part of our sponsorship, Martin’s had the opportunity to send volunteers to answer phones during the event. Kyle Myers, our Network Support Technician, and his wife, Heather, spent several weeks living at the Ronald McDonald house in Hershey when their daughter was born with a serious heart defect. This was not only a great cause to support in our surrounding community but also one that was a big help to one of our Martin’s family members during his time of need.
Here is a statement from Kyle about his time at the event:
“Being part of a telethon was an interesting experience. When we got there, they were setting out a delicious lunch for all volunteers. The complimentary gourmet lunch was a pleasant surprise. Just past the dining area we saw a live TV set for the telethon. I honestly didn’t have any idea that we were going to be on TV at the time so that made us a bit nervous. Just before training we met with some of the production crew, and the crew from the Ronald McDonald house that made this all happen. The Ronald McDonald house is an amazing organization to support. In our time of need, they gave us a place to stay and it was remarkable. This telethon was a wonderful opportunity to give back for all they have given us. A big thanks goes out to Martin’s Famous Pastry Shoppe for this awesome day!”
